Deutsche Post Tracking Number Formats

All international tracked items follow the S10 standard: two letters, nine digits, and DE at the end. Examples include RR123456789DE for registered mail, CP987654321DE for standard parcel, CD555666777DE for small packet, EX111222333DE for DHL Express, and LX444555666DE for Warenpost International.

Domestic formats in Germany only include long numeric like 001234567890000123456 or mixed short like JJDE123456789.

Package Status Explained

Angenommen means received at the post office. In Zustellung means out for delivery today. Im Zustellstützpunkt means at the local delivery depot. Zollabfertigung means customs. Zugestellt means delivered and signed or in the mailbox. Abgeholt means picked up from the Packstation. Rücksendung means returned to sender.

Each update includes a timestamp and location.

Delivery Timeframes (Realistic Estimates)

For domestic in Germany, standard letter takes 1–2 business days, standard parcel takes 1–2 days, Päckchen takes 2–3 days, and same-day GoGreen is available in select cities.

For international, EU destinations like France, Netherlands, Austria take 3–5 days standard or 1–2 days express with DHL; UK takes 4–7 days standard or 1–3 days express; USA or Canada takes 7–14 days standard or 2–4 days express; China or Japan takes 8–15 days standard or 3–5 days express; Australia takes 10–18 days standard or 4–6 days express.

Customs delay adds 1–5 days, peak season from November to December adds 1–3 days, and there is no Sunday delivery.

Package Limits & Restrictions

The letter's max weight is 1 kg with dimensions 35.3 × 25 × 5 cm. Päckchen max weight is 2 kg with length plus width plus height ≤ 90 cm. Parcel S max weight is 31.5 kg with 120 × 60 × 60 cm. DHL Paket max weight is 31.5 kg with length plus width plus height ≤ 300 cm.

Prohibited items include weapons, explosives, liquids over 1L unless approved, live animals except bees, counterfeit goods, and perishables without cooling. Insurance covers up to €500 standard or €2,500 optional.

Common Issues & Solutions

No updates for 48+ hours: wait 24–72 hours, check customs, contact support. Marked delivered but not received: check Packstation, neighbors, safe place, report within 7 days. Customs hold: pay duties online via Zoll-Portal, provide invoice. Wrong address: redirect via app before “Out for delivery”. Damaged package: photograph immediately, file a claim within 7 days.
